Finding great worth in performing within a group dynamic… 313phresh and TrueSpeech teamed up as #FAMILYGRIND and are aggressively becoming a stable on the Detroit Hip Hop scene.
The duo, both born and raised on the westside of Detroit, have been terrorizing other emcees with explosive and in your face lyrics; challenging today’s hip hop status quo and constantly out performing everyone on every stage by commanding, enlightening, embracing and propelling the crowd.
As #FAMILYGRIND… the duo have performed at Indie Week Music Festival in Toronto, ON (Canada); twice at POP Montreal International Music Festival in Montreal, QC (Canada); opened for hip hop heavyweight and national recording artist Philadelphia Freeway (Roc-A-Fella) and Canadian electro hip-hop band Radio Radio and have shared the same stage alongside some of the best artists & DJs their native Michigan’s music circuit has to offer.
Not looking to fit a certain “format” or reduce themselves down to be placed into a “standardized” radio playlist… #FAMILYGRIND are on a journey of playing music filled with personal explorations, social awareness, political commentaries, a balance of relationship issues and some braggadocio battle rhymes thrown in for good measure. But above all, it is pure independent Hip Hop.
In 2014, #FAMILYGRIND released their first full-length studio album “Pirate Radio”, which you can get at our store iLLStreet and also on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon.
What type of music? Hip Hop // Rap
When did you first start? Always have had a passion and rapped growing up, as far as taking the craft more serious and w/ record label – 313phresh (2006) TrueSpeech (2011).
Why did you decide to start it? With both of us enjoying the sport of rapping and being actual blood-related FAMILY, it was only due time for us to link up and cause havoc.
Are you a solo Artist or part of group? Group.
What name do you go by? #FAMILYGRIND (313phresh + TrueSpeech)
How did you come up with the name? Performing nearly wherever a stage sat in 2011, we created a presence where people began to not greet us by our names individually but as #FAMILYGRIND.
Who do you like to collaborate with? We don’t really collaborate much but we have been honored to collaborate on (1) song with the likes of Detroit veterans such as Guilty Simpson, Marv Won, and Moe Dirdee over a track produced by Toronto’s own KemiKal.
Where do you play? Wherever there’s an audience and the opportunity itself makes sense for us, not just monetarily but with our goals set ahead.
When are your upcoming shows? Due to us locking in the studio to finish our project we currently have no shows booked (confirmed), there are works of us heading to the West Coast as well as a possible college run in the state of Michigan once our project is 100% complete.
